
Creating Abstracts in Watercolor or Acrylic
Have you always wanted to know how to begin an abstract painting?

This workshop be done with watercolor or acrylics, your choice.
In this workshop you will experience the instructor’s hands-on demonstration, fundamental compositional layouts, technique, color, value, line, form, collage and mark making. Imagine painting with a credit card and found objects. We will learn the joy and freedom of abstraction and to tap into our intuition. At the end of the day there will be a group critique. This class is for all levels. If you make a mistake so what, it’s a happy mistake! There are some rules and there are no rules!
There will be a 30 minute break for lunch (not provided).
There is a list of supplies below for both watercolor and acrylic. Additional supplies will be provided by Detati Art.
Supply List:
- 1 sheet of 140 or 300 lb watercolor paper, size cut to 11” x 15”.
- (optional) If working in Acrylic you can bring in a canvas, acrylic paper or wood panel no larger than 24” x 24”.
- Bring your favorite palette of colors in watercolor or acrylic or both. For acrylics: must include titanium white and black.
- Mixing tray for paints or palette paper.
- Bring in your favorite brushes for watercolor or acrylic. Please bring a brush to use the gel medium for gluing collage.
- Palette knife for acrylics and old credit cards.
- Water container, fine mist spray bottle, old toothbrush and paper towels.
- #2 pencil, a fine black marker, water-soluble crayons and pencils.
- Masking tape and scissors.
- Collage papers: various kinds – Detati Art will also provide some.
- For art marking, we will be making various marks in the medium or on paper. So, whatever you can find in your home that would make a great mark.
- Any stencils you would like to use.
